Science Castle Asia 2026

"ADVANCED SCIENCE" Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Negeri Sembilan

Science Castle Asia is an international STEM conference where secondary or high school students present research and innovation projects, receive feedback from academia and industry, and connect with like-minded young researchers.

Science Castle Asia is an international STEM research conference for secondary school students organized by Leave a Nest Group. It serves as a platform for students from different countries across Asia to present their scientific research, innovative ideas, and technology-based projects in a professional conference environment. Unlike a competition, Science Castle Asia focuses more on learning, sharing knowledge, collaboration, and building connections among young researchers, educators, scientists, universities, and industry professionals.

During the conference, students participate in poster presentations, oral presentations, workshops, and networking sessions where they can explain their research findings, receive feedback from experts, and exchange ideas with other students who share similar interests in science and technology. The projects presented often cover areas such as environmental sustainability, robotics, artificial intelligence, health sciences, food technology, engineering, biodiversity, and community problem-solving.

Science Castle Asia also encourages students to develop important skills such as communication, critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, and confidence in presenting their ideas publicly. By interacting with researchers and professionals, students gain exposure to real-world scientific applications and future career opportunities in STEM fields. The conference creates an inspiring and supportive environment that motivates young people to continue exploring science and innovation while contributing meaningful solutions to challenges faced by society and the world.

    Project ViroSentry

    MORE
Objective - Create a lightweight ML engine to prevent viral mutational escape. Hypotheses - Modeling downstream drift allows us to steer viruses into non-viable structural dead-ends. Results - The pipeline outperformed benchmark models, reducing binding affinity RMSE to 0.64 using edge compute. This proves decentralized frameworks can design mutation-proof treatments without massive supercomputers.

GENETIC SEQUENCING OF ENDEMIC ORCHIDS IN SARAWAK

    MORE
Sarawak has many unique orchids, but some endemic Bulbophyllum species lack genetic data. This study analysed three Sarawak species using chloroplast DNA (matK gene) and Sanger sequencing to support accurate identification and conservation. Results are expected to show close relationships among Sarawak species and provide new DNA barcode data for future orchid research and protection.

MEND: A Machine Learning Framework For Medicine Education And Navigated Disposal

    MORE
MEND is an AI-powered platform that improves medicine management and safe disposal in Malaysia. Using machine learning, OCR, and geolocation, it tracks medications, predicts potential waste, and guides users to verified disposal sites. The system promotes responsible medicine use, reduces environmental pollution and antimicrobial resistance, and supports sustainable healthcare and SDG 3 goals.

A wearable battery powered by human sweat

    MORE
The objective of this research is to develop a battery that directly utilizes human sweat as an energy source by replacing the conventional Voltaic-cell-based structure with an enzyme battery system that utilizes skin microbiota. This approach aims to increase power generation and provide a stable power supply over extended periods. I hypothesize that batteries utilizing skin microbiota will produce more stable electricity generation than conventional Voltaic-cell-type batteries. In addition, this system has the potential to be more environmentally friendly and safer for human use. This study explores a sustainable and practical energy-harvesting technology for future wearable devices.

Performance Comparison of Wavy Airfoil Sections

    MORE
Focusing on wavy airfoils, I fabricated prototype airfoils, lift, drag, and wind tunnel apparatus, and did tests with wave numbers, sizes, and tail presence. As a result, I discovered wavy airfoils that showed superior performance compared to baseline airfoil. Also, it was suggested that the generation of vortices suppresses airflow separation at the wing surface, potentially increasing lift.

Changes in the Properties of Caddisfly Silk in Response to Disinfectant Solutions.

    MORE
Caddisfly silk from Stenopsyche marmorata has strong adhesion in water. To explore medical applications, I examined how disinfectants affect its properties. Silk samples were immersed in saline and disinfectants, and elongation was measured. Caddisfly silk showed increased elongation in saline and 70% ethanol, unlike silkworm silk. These results suggest unique environmental responsiveness.

Rambutan Nano-Sutures: The Future of Wound Care

    MORE
To address the burden of Surgical Site Infections (SSIs), this study developed AgNP-coated silk sutures via green synthesis using Rambutan Peel Extract (RPE). Characterized by UV-Vis and SEM-EDX, the sutures showed a 3.13% silver loading. In vivo evaluation using the Modified Draize Scale proved the AgNP sutures reduce inflammation and accelerate healing compared to plain silk.

    ARATI-LESS TUMOR

    MORE
Malignancy remains a leading cause of mortality, and conventional chemotherapeutics like doxorubicin, though effective, are often toxic and costly. This study evaluates the tumoricidal activity of Muntingia calabura L. leaves ethanolic extract stabilized with chitosan from Caesio cuning against UVB-induced tumors in Drosophila melanogaster Meigen. Observations focused on tumor regression, mortality, and fly vitality. The 50% extract concentration produced the highest tumor regression (51.86%), comparable to doxorubicin (54.37%), with lower mortality (66.67% vs. 100%). One-way ANOVA showed a significant difference in tumor reduction (F = 76.12, p < 0.001) but not in mortality (p = 0.392). Overall, Muntingia calabura L. extract with chitosan appears to be a safe, cost-effective alternative to conventional chemotherapeutics.

HiveMind : A Smart Beehive Computer Vision AI Framework for Varroa Mite Detection

    MORE
Honeybees are the backbone of global food security, pollinating over 70% of leading crop species and sustaining wild ecosystems. Their decline due to the Varroa destructor mite threatens biodiversity and agricultural stability. This study presents an autonomous monitoring framework using a Raspberry Pi 5 to protect these vital pollinators. By deploying sensors at the hive, the system utilizes real-time computer vision to detect mites, eliminating invasive manual inspections and internet dependence. Upon detection, an immediate alert enables early intervention. This accessible technology offers a scalable solution for safeguarding food supplies. The project aligns with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by securing pollination, SDG 15 (Life on Land) by preventing colony collapse, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by advancing smart apiculture via edge computing. This AI-hardware integration provides a powerful tool for sustainable conservation.

FTIR & SEM Characterization of Mushroom Baglog Biocokes with Batik Wax Waste Adhesive

    MORE
The global energy crisis has accelerated the development of biomass-based renewable energy like biocoke. This study analyzes the chemical and morphological traits of biocoke made from mushroom baglog and batik wax waste binder using FTIR and SEM. Two samples were tested, each with 50% wax waste: raw baglog (M50%) and pyrolyzed biochar (P50%) treated at 350–400 °C. FTIR analysis showed M50% contained strong aliphatic C–H and O–H groups, indicating high moisture (7.55%) and volatile matter (41.75%). Conversely, P50% exhibited intensified aromatic C=C peaks and reduced O–H bands, reflecting deeper carbonization, 46.76% fixed carbon, and a high heating value of 27.31 MJ/kg. SEM micrographs revealed that M50% had a fibrous, porous structure, while P50% displayed a compact, homogeneous surface with micro-pores (1–10 µm). Ultimately, pyrolysis enhances energy quality and structural stability, while batik wax waste acts as an effective binder to improve calorific performance.
