Science Castle Asia 2026 to be held in Malaysia: Two days for high school students from Asian countries to share research across borders and deepen their questioning

The Revanses Group held the "Science Castle Asia 2026" symposium for high school students on August 22nd and 23rd, 2026 at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in Malaysia.

The Science Castle symposium for high school students, which began in Japan in 2012, has expanded to Southeast Asia along with Liberas’ activities. Currently, we hold domestic conferences every year in four countries: Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Furthermore, the Science Castle Asia has been held since 2023 as a platform for next-generation researchers from each country to gather, engage with different cultures, perspectives, and issues unique to each country and region, and connect with fellow researchers across borders to further expand their research activities.

This year’s Science Castle Asia attracted 319 teams from 103 schools in 11 Asian countries, the largest number ever (Malaysia 193, Philippines 72, Indonesia 26, Japan 11, Thailand 10, and others). A total of 90 posters were presented, including 12 oral presentations selected after a review of the documents (3 from Japan, 3 from Malaysia, 2 from the Philippines, 2 from Indonesia, 1 from Thailand, and 1 from Vietnam), as well as 48 posters from the review-eligible poster presentations.

The theme of the conference was “ADVANCE SCIENCE”. The high school and middle school students who participated not only presented their research results, but also explored new questions to advance their research and connect science with solving societal challenges through discussions and exchanges with high school students, researchers, and companies from various Asian countries.

■ A total of 20 high school students from Japan participated, sharing their research results in English

A total of 20 high school students and junior high school students from Japan traveled to Malaysia.

Five of these researchers were selected through the special project "Special Offers from Dr. X – Global Passport" that supports global research endeavors by high school and middle school students held at "Science Castle World 2025 (held in Tokyo in December 2025)".

The Global Passport is a program aimed at creating opportunities for high school and middle school students to venture abroad early on and develop the psychological and technical skills to conduct research and work with peers worldwide in the future. We are fully supporting the travel to Science Castle Asia and the presentation of research for high school students who do not yet have a passport at the time of selection.

This time, in addition to these five participants, 15 others joined the event, bringing the total number of participants from Japan to Malaysia to 20. The participants took on the challenge of presenting research papers in English and engaging in Q&A sessions. They received questions and opinions from participants from various Asian countries with different research fields and cultural backgrounds, allowing them to reframe their own research from a different perspective.

■ Keynote speeches by space science researchers, thinking about the future possibilities from science

On the first day of the conference, he will serve as the Director of the National Space Science Centre and the Institute of Climate Change.Ts. Dr. Norsuzlin Mohd SaharA keynote speech was delivered by

In the lecture, a message was sent to high school students about exploring the possibilities of the future through space education and STEM education.

During the conference, in addition to Partner Sharing by companies and research institutions, eight experiential workshops were held on topics such as space development, satellite data, engineering, sustainability, agriculture, energy, and biodiversity.

Not only did the research results provide an opportunity to present the research findings, but also to explore the perspectives of researchers and companies on science and technology and social issues, giving participants an opportunity to think about “where their research can go next.”

■ Awards are given for oral and poster presentations to honor research from Asian countries

At the end of the second day of the conference, a ceremony was held to present awards for oral and poster presentations.

In the oral presentation, three awards were selected: the Leave a Nest Grand Award, the Alphaswift Oral Award, and the Lockheed Martin Oral Award. In the poster presentation, partner companies and institutions selected research from their respective perspectives, awarding prizes to a total of 19 studies.

Research on a wide range of topics such as the environment, food and agriculture, materials, AI, water, space and aviation, and biodiversity were selected, and the diverse perspectives and research possibilities of high school students from different countries and regions were recognized.

In this competition, the focus is not on achieving the prize itself, but on leveraging the feedback from researchers and companies who evaluate the research into the next study. By allowing high school students from different countries and regions to develop their own personal issues and curiosities into research and to discuss the results across borders, new questions and research possibilities have emerged.

■ A partner from Japan to support the next generation of challenges

The overseas travel of high school and junior high school students participating in this program and their challenges on a global stage were made possible through the support and sponsorship of the following partner companies and organizations, which resonate with the “exploration of knowledge” and “flier into the world” of the next generation.

・artience Co., Ltd.
・Kaminata Fisheries Group
・SpaceNom Institute, Inc.
Tokyo University of Science
・Nagahama Tiger Spinning Co., Ltd.
Focus Systems, Inc.

Not only did partner companies and organizations support the efforts of high school and middle school students by helping them pursue their research, but they also provided guidance on how to share their research with the world through exchanges and advice on research in the field.

Science Castle is not just a place for competing over research achievements. It is also a place for sharing research born from one’s curiosity with others, for receiving questions from people with different expertise and cultural backgrounds, and for meeting fellow researchers who can help advance one’s own research. The Liberasens Group will continue to provide opportunities for high school students worldwide to deepen their research based on their own "questions," to connect with fellow researchers across borders, and to pioneer the future through science and technology.
