Summary

Subject of application Junior high school students, high school students, and technical college students (3rd year or younger) who are engaged in research activities

募集テーマ例 I want to solve issues that I found because I am a minority.
I have a hard time concentrating on conversations with friends in noisy places. I want to find a way to concentrate.
Why is it that some days I don't want to go outside?
Food availability is limited. We want to create a food environment where people can still enjoy themselves with their families and friends.
I want to communicate my thoughts in ways other than speech. I want to find a way to communicate that suits me.
I have trouble sleeping when I stay out overnight. I want to find a way to get back to sleep.

Application Requirements

  • The junior high school student or high school or college of technology student who is applying must take the initiative in applying.
  • Have the consent of the parent or guardian or the school to which the student belongs
  • Be able to provide information (including contact information) to be included in the application
  • 2025年9月上旬The applicant must be able to participate in the kick-off event to be held on the day of the event (the date of the event will be decided upon consultation with the adopter). In addition, we will basically consider holding the event on site, but will make online participation available for those who live far away).

中高生が自身の困りごとやモヤモヤを研究という形で深めていく「DE&I賞」。2023年に始まった取り組みは、これまでに7名の中高生が採択され、自分自身の困りごとと向き合いながら研究成果を発信してきた。2025年度からは賞の名称をDE&I賞と改め、多数のパートナーが参画する体制へとアップデート。活動の拡大とさらなる挑戦へと歩みを進める。リバネスとともに本取り組みを立ち上げ、こどもたちの研究に伴走してきた公益財団法人ベネッセこども基金（以下、こども基金）の青木さんと髙橋さんから、この賞の原点と可能性を伺う。

そのモヤモヤが探求の入り口

　サイエンスキャッスル研究費DE&I賞は、「自分自身の特性やマイノリティ性に着目したあらゆる開発や研究」を対象としている。しかし、自分には特別な課題はないと感じたり「マイノリティ」という言葉に距離を感じる人もいるかもしれない。実は、こども基金の髙橋さんもそうだったという。しかし、参加した中高生たちの話に耳を傾けるうちに、自分の中にも確かに人には理解されにくい困りごとや特徴があり、かたちは違っても誰の中にもあると気づいたそうだ。「心の中にふと浮かぶ違和感や、弱みだからこそ人には言いにくいこと。そんな一見ささやかなテーマほど、大切に向き合ってほしい」と髙橋さんは語る。あなたの内側にある小さな声やモヤモヤが、他の誰にも真似できない、ユニークな研究の始まりになるのだ。

困りごとを整理し、研究コーチと一歩目を踏み出す

　DE&I賞では、当事者研究の手法をもとに、自分の中でどのような時に違和感や生きづらさを感じるのかを言語化し、理想の世界を目指して、まずは記録を取りながら困りごとの背景や要因を探ったり、困りごとを解決するプロダクトを開発したりしていく。似た経験を持つ人の話を聞くことも研究の重要なプロセスの一つだ。研究経験がなくても、リバネスや研究コーチとともに進められる安心な環境が整っている。そして、このプログラムのもう一つの特徴は、「研究する」という共通の目的が、互いの違いや問いを尊重し合える関係を育んでいくことにある。参加者同士や伴走する大学の研究者との間では、「それ、おもしろいね」「もっと知りたい」と新しい視点への関心の声が自然と交わされる。誰もが対等な研究者として受け入れられ、研究の多様性がそのまま個人の在り方の多様性として尊重される。そうした関係の中で、一人ひとりが自分でいていいと感じられる空気が自然に生まれているのだ。自分では弱みだと思っていたことが、誰かにとっての「知りたい」に変わり、それがユニークな研究として尊重される。DE&I賞は、そんな研究の連鎖が広がっていく場所なのだ。

発信したからこそ聞こえてくる共感の声

　この研究は、深い自己理解や研究者としてのステップアップの可能性だけでなく、周囲の見方を変えて社会に新たな問いを投げかける力を持っている。「こどもたちの発信が共感を呼び、社会や大人の解像度を上げる。すると社会が変わるんです」と青木さんは語る。実際にこども基金自身も、これまでの活動に参加した中高生たちとの出会いを通して、大きな気づきを得たという。もともと「支援が届きにくい困りごととはどんなものか？」を問いながら活動していた。そうした中で、学校や制度では把握しにくい生徒自身の内側にある生きづらさや違和感、そうした「名もなき課題」の存在が明らかになった。既存の枠組みではすくいきれない課題が確かに存在するという実感から、より多様な声に応えていけるよう、活動の場を広げている。
オンラインで配信もされた成果発表会では、チャット欄はハートや拍手で埋まり、「自分も悩んでいます」「勇気をもらいました」と応える声が次々と届いた。しんどさや恥ずかしさを感じた経験を含めて語られた研究が、誰かの明日を支える小さな力になる。DE&I賞の研究支援は、そんな共感と応援が循環する、あたたかい場にもなっている。言葉にならない違和感も、小さな気づきも、それが問いとなって発せられたとき、耳を傾ける人がきっといる。今は自分だけかもしれないと感じている課題に光を当て、客観的に探究し、発信すること。その一歩が、研究をする生徒自身の未来も、社会の未来も、きっと豊かに変えていくはずだ。（文・大島友樹）
